Zebra stone

OK, I promised some rock pictures (and I am not talking about Mick). Here is an unusual stone from Western Australia. It is called zebra stone for obvious reasons. The red stripes contain iron, but geologists are uncertain regarding the process of formation. I bought this from a Frenchman who had lived in Australia for twenty years. We had a pleasant little conversation (in French) and he made me a nice deal on this rock and another. I only regret that I didn't buy a piece of opal from him.

Now that is plain weird and a very cool rock!

French, huh? Interesting. I took high school Spanish and always wanted to learn more but have not done so, yet.
We have the Cajun French around here and it is a beautiful language, but I don't understand any of it.

Cool rock but that's understandable considering where it comes from.... not that I'm biassed or anything.

As for opals - they are pretty - surely you could find some Aussie to make you a good deal and get you something opally? (Yes, opally just became a word - or perhaps Opalish would be better?)

This is your blog buddy from Australia commenting again - am I the "friend" or the "weirdo".?

Anyway, I checked out your photos from Australia back in Sept last year, then scrolled down and listened to you speak. Now I almost feel inspired to leave an audio blog on my site too.

You went to Sydney? Hmmm. Of all the pretty places in Australia, you could have gone a bit further south...... but I guess you can't fit in everything you might have wanted to see/do!

That is a neat specimen. We have tons of rocks and minerals in this house and I have no idea what they are or how to identify them.

I thougth I had a special little stone with a clear cross shape on both sides (which I found while I was walking outside an abbey where I stayed for a weekend together with a friend) - but compared to this piece of natural art my stone is nothing... Wow! Really amazing!

Thanks for all your comments, everyone. (Carolanne, the sad truth is that you have to be something of a weirdo to be counted as one of my friends. Just think, to those living in the flesh, we ARE weirdos.)
Paul, how about posting a photo of your (double) cross stone?

The sad truth is David, that all my friends say I must be weird to be counted as one of their friends. LOL Must be birds of a feather......
